Other Hyperbaric Services

The uses and benefits of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy continue to be investigated and there are conditions which may benefit from this therapy, but are not covered by OHIP. We are happy to discuss the possible benefits for these other indications and the cost of this treatment.

Examples of areas for which there is medical evidence of benefit include:

  • Post-operative care and wound healing

  • Accelerated recovery from injuries

  • Fibromyalgia

  • Erectile dysfunction

  • Brain injury in certain patients

  • Interstitial cystitis

There are also areas where it is recognized that Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy does not provide any benefit and is not recommended. Examples of indications for which hyperbaric oxygen should not be used include the treatment of autism spectrum disorder, cerebral palsy and multiple sclerosis. However patients with such conditions can receive HBOT for other indicated medical conditions.

Patients are welcome to self-refer for a consultation with one of our hyperbaric physicians to further discuss this topic by clicking on the Book a Consultation link.
